Mrs Redford-James

Head of School

mab.head@stbarnabasmat.com

I have been teaching at St Mabyn School since 2017; continuing as Class 2 teacher, as well as developing my role as Reading, Writing and MFL lead for the Trust, and now Head of School. My love for teaching began on undertaking my first degree in French and Spanish, where I was lucky enough to teach English abroad for a year, I subsequently decided to complete my PGCE to become a primary school teacher afterwards! I feel very lucky to be teaching in a school that holds links to my own family, who were born in St Mabyn and attended our school in the 1860s.

Mrs Bray

Class 1 Teacher

cbray@stbarnabasmat.com

I love being a part of this very special school community, where I myself, my father and my grandmother were all pupils - and my children are now here too! Having taught KS2 for many years, it is a real joy to teach in Class 1. I also lead the music clubs in school: choir, recorders and a small orchestra. I love the countryside, and whenever I get any spare time, I get out in the garden or go for a walk.

Mrs Shields

SENDCo

jshields@stbarnabasmat.com

I have worked in education ever since leaving school in one  role or another. I worked as a 1:1, classroom TA & HLTA over the course of the first 8 years of my career. This is where my passion for the education of pupils with SEND began! I then qualified as a teacher & worked in several schools teaching a wide variety of year groups for the next 10 years. The majority of this time was spent within small village primary schools.

Alongside my class teacher role, I qualified as a SENDCO & worked as both a class teacher & SENDCO for a number of years before taking on the role of Trust SENDCO back in 2020. SEND provision is a real passion of mine  and I strongly believe that what is best practice for children with SEND is just best practice and  benefits all children generally.

When I'm not at work I live with my family near Wadebridge, including my partner, 2 young children and  our dog. We enjoy walking & exploring in the beautiful Cornish countryside & along the coast near where we live.

Miss Hunt

Class 2 Teacher

hhunt@stbarnabasmat.com

I love teaching and working with children, starting my career at St Tudy School. Outside of school, I love walking my dog, Walter, on the coast paths, beaches and the moors. I also spend my time being creative and sewing quirky animal sculptures.

Mrs Carless

Secretary

I have been working at St Mabyn School since 14th March 2022, but have had previous experience in other small schools within the academy. I am really enjoying my role and I feel so lucky to be able to work in this environment with such lovely staff and children. When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my family.

Miss Davey

Level 3 EYFS Practitioner

I’m so pleased to be given the opportunity to work in this lovely village school. I have been an educator in the early years sector for over 6 years and love my job dearly. Supporting children to learn, play and be happy is what I do best. My favourite is exploring with messy play!

Outside of school I enjoy being creative, reading and I love exploring coastal walks with my little sausage dog and my daughter.

Miss Beagle

I moved to Cornwall in 2007 having spent many holidays here.  I started working as a Lunchtime Supervisor at St Mabyn School in 2009 and then as a Teaching Assistant in early 2011.  Since then, I have worked in all three classrooms at some point or another whilst working with small groups or individual children when needed.  I am the schools Dyslexia Champions.  Outside of school I am qualified Level 3 Swimming Official and have attended national events whilst watching my daughter swim. I love crafting especially knitting, crochet and sewing and have many ongoing projects, I really enjoy watching sports in particular football.
