DESIGN TECHNOLOGY.
Design Technology
At St Mabyn School, we believe that Design and Technology helps to provoke and answer questions about the rapidly changing world. Our school enables children to identify needs and opportunities and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and by making products and systems. Through the study of Design and Technology, they combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industry. This allows children to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology, its uses and impacts. Our children will connect new knowledge with existing knowledge, as well as developing fluency and applying their knowledge and skills; drawing on skills and knowledge gained from other curriculum areas e.g. mathematics, science, art. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, children develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation. Design and Technology curriculum combines skills, knowledge, concepts and values to enable children to tackle real problems. It can improve analysis, problem solving, practical capability and evaluation skills.
