Welcome to Class 2
This Summer term, our topic is 'Brazil'. In Literacy, we will be studying the story of 'Rio' and 'The Great Kapok Tree', and using Pie Corbett's Talk4Writing approach to create our own tales! We will also be writing newspaper reports and non-chronological reports, as well as looking at poetry from various poets. Our knowledge of poetry is building every day with our Poem of the Day Project that will continue through this term!
In Maths this term, we are focusing on fractions and decimals, measurement, time, and geometry using Power Maths and White Rose, as well as times tables practice.
In our afternoon sessions, we will be studying Brazil in topic, as well as exploring in outdoor learning. This term we will be learning all about making fires and geographical navigation! We will also be exploring Rio de Janeiro's Carnival, creating head dresses and masks and learning all about Samba music!
In ICT, we are learning to code using Purple Mash, as well as word processing so we are all able to access our learning at home too. In Spanish, our focus has been on phonics, learning las vocales first. We are now learning nouns (¿Qué tienes en tu estuche?) and an introduction to gender through colour coding. We will be looking at los animales and los colores with the lignuistic focus of gender, definite and indefinite articles, plurals and adjectives. (Position and basic agreement), we will build to focus on memory and performance, retelling La oruga hambrienta - we hope to share videos of the performances afterwards!
Thank you for your continued support with the children's learning at home - please keep up reading every day and record reading daily. (If you need further support with this, please see ClassDojo for example reading record entries referring to our class use of VIPERS for comprehension or contact me via ClassDojo message or email - firstname.lastname@example.org)
There is opportunity for your child to write a book review in their reading record when they have completed a book (Before or after they have completed their AR Book Quiz in school). When your child reads in school, it will be recorded in a reading folder in the classroom, the reading record will still be checked daily, so please continue to use it for communication about reading.
On the back cover of the reading record, you will find your child's Sumdog login. We would like Sumdog practice to be completed for at least 30 minutes a week.
Homework this term will be focussing on establishing -
Daily Reading (Recorded in reading book & Book Reviews where appropriate)
At least 30 minutes of Sumdog learning
Weekly spellings - children will be taught spelling rules and will be revising these rules as well as spellings each week (we will review each Thursday)
SPAG.com - revision tests will be assigned weekly
Children will be expected to log in to Class Dojo regularly to keep up to date with class information and homework.
Further homework will be set when these core home learning aspects are established.
Class Dojo will be used for home-school communication alongside email. You will be able to view the class story where reminder messages, class information and homework will be posted.
Your child will be able to login using their individual QR code that has been sent home or use the "home login instructions" that have been sent to each parent via ClassDojo.
If you would like to come and have a talk to me about what is happening in class, please email me - email@example.com or contact me via ClassDojo.
Thank you for your support,
